Principal's Message

Ashley Family

Dear Beechwood Community,

We wanted to take this opportunity a little past the halfway point of the 2018-19 school year to communicate with you all about several exciting things happening at Beechwood Elementary.  The families of this community are to be commended for providing us the opportunity to be all we can be for your students.  Thank you for instilling the value of community and the value of education in your homes and for trusting us with your most valuable asset each and every day!  It is our joy to educate the whole child and provide them a learning experience unlike any other.

The staff in this building is second to none in so many ways, from the custodians/maintenance to the secretaries, teachers and administrators, each and every person contributes to the success of our students.  There are far too many things happening on a daily basis to list, but we collected some ‘highlights’ from our staff that we would like to share with you.

  • Teachers are differentiating reading and math lessons on a daily basis through research based strategies such as Daily 5 centers and other instructional methods in order to meet every student right where they are and facilitate their growth.
  • Teachers are successfully implementing a research based math program and reading program.
  • We are utilizing Read 180, Dreambox, Lexia and other intervention programs to support learning as well.
  • We have increased our focus on the writing process and developing an ability to explain thought processes through writing.
  • Teachers are setting goals with students and collecting data on each students’ progress in exciting new ways as well.  We have data charts in the hallways for things like fact fluency and classes are really competing with one another to get those numbers up!
  • Classes are being exposed to digital literacy and teachers are highlighting things through Twitter and other digital platforms with the help of our Technology guru, Monica Wainscott.
  • Our STEM, Mandarin, Technology, Art, Music and PE programs are excelling more than ever before.  I recently watched a class of 6 and 7 year-old students engineering, experimenting and solving problems in amazing ways with Project Lead the Way!
  • Our intermediate students are exploring digital learning through google classrooms and other online platforms, and we are implementing the one-to-one device initiative for our third through sixth graders.
  • Seminar is running smoothly as students(5th-8th) are gaining so many new skills and experiencing exciting, real-world opportunities.

There are so many great things happening academically at Beechwood, our team wanted to take a few minutes and provide a snapshot of the excellent opportunities at Beechwood Elementary.  We are working very hard to provide each and every child with exactly what they need while in our care.  Thank you for the time and commitment to our students as we strive for excellence each and every day.

Zach Ashley
