How much is lunch?

Lunch for grades Pre-k – 2 $2.75, grades 3-5 $3.00 grades 6-12 $3.50
Breakfast for grades K-12 is $1.75 (all prices are Board pending)

How can I pay for my child's meals without having him/her bring money to school?

You have 3 options to choose from to pay for your child’s school meals.

1. Send your child with cash each day he/she buys school lunch and or breakfast.
2. Send a check or cash to the cafeteria to be deposited into your child’s lunch account. Please include your child or children s names and how you would like the money split among the accounts.
3. Through your Parent Portal log in you may add money to your child’s lunch account using a credit card ($2 free will apply). Make sure you receive a confirmation number if not your payment may not have been processed properly.

How can I find out how much money is remaining on my child's lunch account?

Log into Parent Portal, choose the link for cafeteria and you will be able to see all activity on your child’s lunch account including meals and extras purchased.

Can I limit the ability of my child to buy extras?

Yes, send a note or email to the cafeteria and a note will be added to your child’s account stating “NO EXTRAS”.

If my child forgets her/his lunch can he/she get a lunch from the cafeteria even if they do not have any money in their account?

Your child may charge a lunch if they do not have a negative balance in excess of $20. Any amount charged should be paid back the following school day. For further information on School lunch charges please refer to the Cafeteria Charge Policy found under the cafeteria link.

Can I apply for Beechwood’s Free/Reduced Lunch Program anytime during the school year?

Yes. As soon as your income/household situation has changed in such a way you feel you may now qualify for the Beechwood’s Free/Reduced Lunch Program please complete the forms are located under the cafeteria link or available in the schools offices and return to the Cafeteria
Manager. This cannot cover lunches already charged so it is BEST to start this process as soon as a need for it may arise.

My child participates in Beechwood’s Free and Reduced Lunch Program will his/her classmates know?

Only if your child tells their classmates. A code appears on every student’s account that only a cafeteria worker would understand that confirms a child’s participation in that program. This program includes 1 complete meal at breakfast and lunch, extra items are at regular price and money must be in the child’s account or cash used at the time an extra item is purchased.

What is included in a school meal?

Breakfast consists of 1 entrée and 2 sides.
Lunch consists of 1 entrée and 3 sides.
Grab n Go (GNG) lunches 1GNG entrée and 3 GNG sides (Pre-k-5
th) or 4 GNG sides (6-12)
Salad Bar Meal-1 base, unlimited veggies/fruit from the salad bar, up to 3 salad bar proteins pre-portioned, up to 2 pre-portioned salad bar sides, 1 drink from the milk cooler 1 fruit from the line, crackers, croutons & rolls

Cafeteria Charge Policy

Food/School Nutrition Services

The Board shall provide a District-wide school nutrition program in compliance with applicable state and federal statutes and regulations. It is the intent of the Board that school nutrition services be a self‑supporting program.

Meals

Lunchrooms shall serve meals that meet or exceed the requirements specified by state and federal regulations.

Meal Charges

The District allows limited meal charges to cover situations such as a student losing or forgetting meal money. This service is not designed or intended to provide a credit service for continuous charging and collection of student meals.

When a student accumulates $20 in meal charges, the Cafeteria Manager/ designee shall initiate the established collection process outlined in procedure 07.1 AP.1, to include notification of parents and appropriate follow-up. Food Service funds shall not be used to collect outstanding meal charges.

Students shall not be permitted to charge a la carte items, nor shall adults be permitted to charge meals or a la carte items.

Food Service/School Nutrition Program Director

The District (or food service area to which the District belongs) shall appoint/select a Food Service/School Nutrition Program Director to oversee and manage the school nutrition service program. All Food Service/School Nutrition Program Directors shall meet minimum educational requirements and annual training requirements in accordance with federal and state law.

Annual Report/Public Forum

Immediately following the release of the annual school nutrition report, the Board shall discuss the findings and seek public comment during a publicly advertised Board meeting.

By January 31 of each year, the Board shall hold an advertised public forum to present a plan to improve school nutrition in the District.

The District shall compile a summary of findings and recommendations and submit the summary to the Kentucky Board of Education.

Discrimination Complaints

The District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in its school nutrition program.

Anyone wishing to initiate a complaint concerning discrimination in the delivery of benefits or services in the District’s school nutrition program should go to the link below or mail a written complaint to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Director, Office of Adjudication, 1400 Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington D.C. 20250-9410, or email, program.intake@usda.gov.

District personnel shall assist parents/guardians and students wishing to file a complaint.

Food/School Nutrition Services

Special Dietary Needs

Students whose dietary needs qualify them for an adaptation under law shall be provided accommodations in keeping with local procedures.
